An ACO is a Move Towards a Better Healthcare System
Jan 27
The way that people are treated by doctors and hospitals is always changing. People used to be under the care of one doctor who took care of them from the day they were born until the day either the patient or the doctor died. They knew their patients’ health history because they were the ones who dealt with all of it. Over time people started to depend on specialists for a large part of their care and it became hard for any person to know a patients complete history. It was a case of people getting better care from specialists, but losing some care because of a lack of information.
Many hospitals and doctors are starting to embrace the idea of Accountable Care Organization. An ACO lets a patient see any doctor within the group, but makes sure that all of the information about a patient is shared. This is possible through the use of electronic records. It is another step forward in healthcare.
